2nd Annual Community Gardens Veggie Tour!

posted Aug 8, 2011, 8:39 PM by Web Master
Community Gardens are alive and growing in Rockford.  This Sunday, take a self-guided tour of 7 diverse but representative gardens where vegetables are being grown in raised beds, straw bales, and even used refrigerators.  And it’s not just plain ole’ vegetables.  Gardeners have become creative with flowers, trellises, painted cows and urban graffiti!
See the attached maps for the locations of the participating Community Gardens.

These gardens are helping people learn how to grow fresh, nutritious food, learn healthier lifestyles, break down barriers, and work towards better communities!  And the gardens share - some give all their vegetables to others, others provide a portion to pantries and the rest to those who work the garden or who are in need.

Come see the growing movement, help celebrate the gardens' success, get a few tips, and come home with some special summer vegetable recipes.
