A new event in Rockford, to be held Sunday, September 11, will combine family fitness and fun with fundraising for four premier performing arts organizations.  The event is BART (Bike for the Arts) with  five-mile, 35-mile and 64-mile bike rides to benefit Rockford Dance Company, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, and Kantorei, the Singing Boys of Rockford.

All rides will begin at the Riverfront Museum Park (RMP).  The family 5-mile fun ride will take riders to Harlem Boulevard to the Bike Path and back to the RMP.  The 35-mile route will travel the bike path to Elmwood Road and further west till its return to RMP; the 64-mile ride takes bikers on a similar route but goes further west past Pecatonica and back.  There will be aid stations, music performances and water along the routes.  Repair vans with equipment will also travel the routes.

Preregistration entry fee for BART is $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12 for the family ride and $35 for all for the 35 and 64-mile rides.  Teams are invited to participate and team names will be custom printed on the back of each team rider’s t-shirt.  Team fee is $50 in addition to individual registration fees.  Non-riders also can participate by being a “Friend of the Ride,” paying the fee and receiving a t-shirt.  A post-ride party at RMP will feature entertainment and food.
