1st Annual Community Garden "Veggie Tour" Saturday August 7, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm This free, self-guided tour will show you how our neighborhoods are growing -- vegetables, that is. These community vegetable gardens are as different as the people who support them and they each have a story to tell. Volunteers are excited to show off 16 of our sites, many with several gardens. Come see different growing methods, including accessible gardens, three ways to grow potatoes, raised beds, container gardens, and innovative uses of recycled materials - even plants in used refrigerators! Our community vegetable gardens are providing neighbors with the opportunity to get exercise, and to grow and cook fresh, affordable, healthy food. People are learning how to work together to improve their lives, their neighborhoods, and their communities. So, come visit, and hear their stories. They may even share recipes or other tips with you.
This is not a bus tour; you will need to provide your own transportation. Some gardens are not very wheelchair friendly and do not have accessible or adjacent parking, so please be prepared to walk and wear good walking shoes. This is a rain or shine event. Restrooms will not be available at the gardens. Please leave your pets at home.
