KNIB Spring Recycling Drive - News from Rockford's Neighborhood Network

 The following is a news release from Rockford's Neighborhood Network:                        

"Spring Metals & Electronics Drive - Saturday, May 5, 2012 - 9 AM to 3 PM in the Machesney Park Mall parking lot


 As of January 1, 2012, the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling & Reuse Act (State Bill 2313) has banned the disposal of computers, monitors, laptops, printers and a wide array of electronics from landfills.

Some of the items accepted FOR FREE at the Spring Metals & Electronics Drive are:

  • Scrap metal
  • Metal filing cabinets
  • Copy machines
  • Fencing
  • Metal desks & shelving
  • Appliances
  • Electronics – including stereos, cell phones and computers and computer monitors
  • Copper pipe
  • Motors (with gas and oil removed)
  • Coat racks
  • Bikes
  • Microwaves and commercial ovens
  • Lawnmowers & Snowblowers (with gas and oil removed)
  • Patio furniture
  • Aluminum siding and steel doors 
  • Any items made primarily of metal

 Items accepted for a $10 fee to cover the cost of decanting and tagging for the EPA are refrigerators, freezers, propane tanks, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.  TVS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

 The KEEP NORTHERN ILLINOIS BEAUTIFUL Metals & Electronics Drive is a perfect opportunity to dispose of metal and electronic items regardless of where residents live or work.
