For the first time, the IRONMAN competition is coming to Rockford. Churchill's Grove is one of the lucky neighborhoods that the athletes will see during the race.
Because the running portion, well, runs through Churchill's Grove, you need to know about some partial road closures from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 22. See the course maps here.
Traffic Impacts in Churchill's Grove on Sunday, June 22
Residents can expect partial road closures from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Harlem Boulevard
Northbound between Guard and Douglas will remain open all day.
Southbound will also remain open all day.
Northbound stretches from Main to Guard and Douglas to Auburn will be partially closed – runners will use the parking and bike lanes.
Residents in this area are advised to park across the street on the boulevard if they plan to come and go during the day. (See above image.)
Guard and Douglas
The full length will be partially closed — runners will use the right lane
National Avenue
The full length will be partially closed — runners will use the river side lane of the road.
The west side will remain open to traffic.
Residents along the river are strongly advised to park on an east/west street like Hancock, Logan, Sheridan, etc. before 8:30 a.m. if they intend to travel during the day.
An aid and hydration station will be set up in front of the tennis courts along National Avenue.
Race and Spectator Details
The first (fastest) runner will likely arrive around 9:45 a.m., with runners continuing through until around 4 p.m.
The route is a double loop, so all runners will pass through your neighborhood twice.
Runners will enter from the north and head south.
We encourage neighbors to cheer for athletes as they pass – make signs, ring bells, and call out words of encouragement!
IRONMAN Yard Signs
GoRockford will place IRONMAN Rockford yard signs along Harlem Boulevard and National Avenue in the parkway between the street and sidewalk. These signs will be removed after the race.
